With the season almost over, we finished on a high note by winning the 'Govan League Champion of Champions' on Sat 19th. We had 4 teams in the finals: Alex Hunter(Singles) Ross Warrender (Junior Singles) Jim Smith, Jim Murdoch, Willie Wallace (Triples) Bobby Woolley, Harry McGregor, Allan Brittain, Bob Lindsay (Senior Fours) On Sunday 20th we rounded it off when we won the S.B.A. Top Ten (District 30) by beating Mosspark in the final. Congratulations and well done to all the players who took part. Thanks to Grant Middleton for the info and many thanks also to 'Scoopy Doo' - Len Davies - for all his reports throughout the season. Here's hoping he can continue next year, because if we don't get the information, then there isn't a news page. We would be delighted to hear from any other budding reporters out there. |

From our roving reporter
Len 'Scoopy Doo' Davies : 'Hillpark Playoffs' On a very drizzly day where the green was so slippy that the umpire almost deemed the greens unplayable, our three finalists managed them magnificently. The triples (Robert Cameron, Darren Gualtieri and Len Davies) won easily with their opponents Clarkston resigning after only ten ends. The pairs (Bill Hayden and Alex Hunter) were taken to the last end by the Thornliebank team but managed to win when Alex nudged his own bool in for the shot with a 2 up victory. In the singles Greg McDonald forced the best out of Scott McWilliams of Crookston (now a three-times winner of this competition) before eventually going down 21-12. It was a great performance all round and a great day for Cardonald's bowlers. All of our teams have qualified for the quarter-finals of the Govan League Champion of Champions which will be played on Saturday (12th Sep )morning at various venues. |

From our roving reporter Len 'Scoopy Doo' Davies : While we still have to wait for the league table website to be updated to get the full story on how the first year with a new format of 2 leagues went, we know that after a tense end of season decider at Renfrew BC we have won the 1st division flag and shield once again. A magnificent 4 points against Renfrew's finest secured a 5 point lead on 49 points. Fairfield and Linthouse have gained promotion from the 2nd division but it is still not clear who will be relegated.
A vital single point from our last game in the Wober League, on Friday against Robertson Park at home, saw us creep over the the winning line with Shawlands breathing down our neck and finishing 1 point behind us. We knew before the game what was needed and we managed to do just enough to save our blushes. With two games to go in the Glasgow League Division 2 we are still in with a chance of promotion as we are sitting just 3 points behind the leaders Mosspark.
The Hillpark K.O.s got off to a good start with all our teams getting through the first round except the mens rinks and one of our Junior singles Gary McQuarrie who lost by a single shot in what I am told was a marathon match. What a Year! Brilliant! |

From our roving reporter Len 'Scoopy Doo' Davies : We remain in a position where we are masters of our own fate in both the Wober and Govan Leagues. If we win our last games this weekend, we win the leagues. The last hurdle is always the highest and we must "gird our loins" for the final push. Crookston and Renfrew are hoping we slip up to let them nick it in the home straight. Don't let it happen boys. Awrabest. Half way through our Glasgow League fixtures and we are sitting in the middle. There is still time to push for promotion but we need to string a few results together. |

Congratulations to everyone who took part in this year's 'Little's Mixed Triples Tournament' and especially to the eventual winners, Eddie Breingan, Alex Young and Margaret McCord. Commiserations to the runners up in a superb final, Iain Cook, Willie McKechnie and Gladys Brittain. Many thanks again to Little's for their generous sponsorship of this competition. From our roving reporter Len 'Scoopy Doo' Davies : Two wins in our last league game kept Cardonald at mid table in the Hillpark League finishing equal 10th out of 21 teams. Titwood BC are the worthy winners this year. Cardonald scraped a point at home v Drumoyne to keep their nose in front of Crookston and Renfrew in a very close race for the Govan League. The Wober teams shared the points against our close rivals Crookston to stay just in front. One up and one down in the Glasgow League gives us the chance of promotion if we win our next few games. Hang in there boys!!! |

From our roving reporter
Len 'Scoopy Doo' Davies : A good start in the Glasgow League 2 shows us sharing the lead on 8 pts together with Mosspark and Fairfield though we are lower on shots difference. We are only 2 pts ahead of Renfrew at the top of the Govan League with our postponed game v Nitshill & Hurlet still to play on Wednesday evening at Cardonald. In the Wober things are just as tight with Crookston and Fairfield breathing down our neck but we remain 3pts ahead at the top. Sadly things ain't so good in the Hillpark League where we have dropped into the lower half for the first time this season at 12th place. We go into our last game on Friday night hoping for a strong finish to get us back up to the top half of the 21 clubs competing. The Hillpark Knock-outs start soon. Watch for details.

From our roving reporter Len 'Scoopy Doo' Davies : Things have been a little confused recently with postponed and cancelled games but it still looks good for the Govan and Wober Leagues with both still on top. Renfrew (our closest challengers in the Govan League) only managed to get one point from their game against Crookston to leave us 4 pts ahead with the re-arranged double header v Mosspark still to play on Wednesday. We remain 6 points ahead of Crookston after a hectic two days, sharing points with Govan on Thursday and taking the full 6 points from Fairfield on Friday. The Hillpark boys did not fair so well losing both games on Friday evening and are struggling to keep in touch with the front runners. The Glasgow League shared the points (2 each) with Mosspark on Thursday evening to get this year's campaign for promotion to the 1st division started. Phew!!! Well done again to all the bowlers representing Cardonald for the commitment and stamina they are showing on the long road to glory. |

From our roving reporter Len 'Scoopy Doo' Davies : The Govan League campaign continues to gain strength after a share of the points at Hillington BC was enough to maintain our 5 point lead over Renfrew BC who also shared their points on Saturday. Hillpark League suffered another set-back with 0 points this week but we remain positive. There is no game this week due to the "Ayrshire Game" players needing recovery time after Thursday. |

From our roving reporter Len 'Scoopy Doo' Davies : The Hillpark away team picked up 3 points on Thursday and the home team lost on Friday night. We are treading water a little, but hope to maintain our 6th position. Things were brighter on Saturday morning when both Govan League games (played at home) won handsomely against our closest rivals Renfrew BC, inflicting a dent in their hopes of catching us at the top of the league. We now lead them by 5 points after the vital 4 points gained. Keep it going for the second half of the season lads! The Glasgow League is due to start soon and Jim McLean is looking for talented bowlers. Stick your name up on the sheet if you would like to be considered for a game. All the Friday Wober League games were postponed to the end of the season due to the funeral of Alan Nicol (Wober Secretary). Our thoughts are with his family. |
| 17th June 2009 |
From our roving reporter Len Davies : The results just in confirm that after two very close victories v Titwood on Friday night, Cardonald BC continue to lead the Govan League allbeit by the slimmest of margins- one point ahead of Renfrew. It looks increasingly like a two horse race, coming up to the halfway mark, but we must not get ahead of ourselves and try our best when we meet Renfrew at home this Saturday (20th) morning 10:00am for a real crunch match. Please come on down and support our guys if you can. The Wober is also very close at the top and Cardonald have closed the gap to one point behind the leaders Fairfield following a maximum six point win over Renfrew. In honour the funeral of the Wober League secretary Alan Nicol of Mosspark BC, this week's games have been postponed so there is no game on Friday. The Hillpark League gets underway again this week following a two-week break. |
| 13th June 2009 |
Congratulations to this year's winners of the 'Mixed Triples' - Christine Woolley, Iain Cook and Alex Hunter. Commiserations to the runners up - Dorothy Christie, Kenny Brooks and Gordon Brown. Another glorious day of weather as well ! |
| 6th June 2009 |
From our roving reporter
Len Davies : The leagues races are hotting-up. In the Govan League, Cardonald share the lead with Renfrew on 23 points after losing one of our games vs Drumoyne. The forthcoming head to head with Renfrew at home is due to be played on June 20th at 10am and is looking to be a crunch match which we must win. The Wober boys are hanging in there in 3rd place only 3 points off the top spot after losing one of their games on Friday against Mosspark. The next Hillpark League game won't be until 19th June due to other competitions but we are still in with a chance (sitting in 6th place 10 points adrift) if we can put in a strong home run. Why not come along and support the guys? It might help and you might enjoy it. In the East Renfrewshire Cup on Friday 5th, three of our four teams came home with a victory but our total of 11 shots up is unlikely to produce silver. Better luck next time! |
| 31st May 2009 |
From our roving reporter Len Davies : Another 6 pointer against Nitshill and Hurlet BC saw Cardonald continue their great start to the Govan League campaign, maintaining their 100% win record. A double header for our Wober League players v Ralston keep us in contention. There was a disappointing dip in fortune when we lost both games in the Hillpark League games v Mearns and Eaglesham. Keep it going lads! All the league tables and results can be accessed via our 'League Results' tab on the Gents' Section home page or the scottishbowls.co.uk website. |
| 23rd May 2009 | Congratulations to Tony Hubbert, Jim Smith and Ian Stewart on winning our 'Triples Day 2009' and commiserations to the runners up Jim Kirkwood, Ian Causer and John Devine plus well done to everyone who participated. |
| 16th May 2009 |
Congratulations to the winners of the 'Mixed Jubilee Trophy' for 2009 - Mai Hood, Ena Breingan, John Graham and Willie Wallace |
| 10th May 2009 |
From our roving reporter Len Davies : On Friday(8th ) the seniors had a great start to the Wober League with a double win against Pollokshaws BC gaining 6 points (which includes a bonus point for winning both home and away games. In the evening the Hillpark League teams had a similar result, winning home v Fairfield BC and away v Whitecraigs BC to lift the maximum 5 points. On Saturday ( 9th ) morning the Govan League campaign got started with a double win against Hillington BC for the maximum 5 points. Congratulations to the bowlers and organisers for a very successful bowls weekend against first class opposition.
